An Awareness Initiative at DCRUST, Murthal
At Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, education goes beyond classrooms and textbooks. It is a place where students are not only trained to excel academically but also to become socially aware, responsible, and active citizens. Continuing its legacy of holistic education, DCRUST recently organised a powerful and inspiring Awareness Initiative — Drive Against Drugs, aimed at promoting a healthy, active, and drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
The initiative was a call to action — encouraging students to choose sports, knowledge, and wellness over addiction and harmful habits. It emphasised that today’s youth are the backbone of tomorrow’s nation, and their energy must be directed toward building a stronger and healthier society.
The Purpose Behind the Drive
The Drive Against Drugs was launched with a clear purpose: to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse, raise awareness about its social impact, and inspire behavioural change through positive engagement.
Drug addiction, unfortunately, is one of the fastest-growing threats among youth globally. It not only ruins individuals but also weakens families, communities, and economies. Understanding this grave issue, DCRUST took the initiative to empower its students with knowledge, awareness, and motivation to stay away from such destructive influences.
Activities and Student Participation
The campaign witnessed massive participation from students, faculty, and volunteers. Activities included awareness rallies, slogan-writing competitions, poster displays, street plays, and marathons under the theme “Run for Sports, Run Against Drugs.”
Each department contributed creatively — engineering students made digital awareness posters, management students organised discussions on youth leadership, while arts students staged emotional and thought-provoking street plays (nukkad nataks) on the real-life impact of addiction.
Motivational talks by health experts, psychologists, and rehabilitation counsellors helped students understand how addiction starts, how it can be prevented, and what steps can help those already affected.
Empowering Youth through Sports and Fitness
One of the campaign’s highlights was promoting sports as an antidote to addiction. DCRUST organised running events and fitness drives to motivate students to replace unhealthy habits with active lifestyles.
Sports not only improve physical fitness but also teach discipline, teamwork, and mental strength — qualities that help youth resist peer pressure and make the right choices. The message resonated strongly across the campus:
“Run for Sports, Run Against Drugs — Choose Strength over Substance.”
Support from Faculty and Administration
The university administration, under its visionary leadership, played a major role in making the initiative a success. Faculty members guided students, coordinated with NGOs, and ensured that every activity carried a learning outcome.
The Vice-Chancellor and senior professors encouraged students to view the campaign not just as an event but as a lifelong lesson in responsibility and moral values. DCRUST’s proactive approach to combining education with awareness once again proved its commitment to nurturing both the intellect and the conscience of its students.
Impact and Outcomes
The Drive Against Drugs left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Students pledged to live healthy, drug-free lives and to support their peers in making positive choices. Many expressed interest in volunteering for future awareness programs and community outreach activities.
By the end of the initiative, DCRUST had not only raised awareness but had also built a stronger, more united, and more responsible student community. The campaign reaffirmed that when youth come together for a cause, change becomes possible.
This event became more than an awareness drive — it became a movement of transformation and empowerment.
Celebrate Colours and Culture at Holi Samaran Mahotsav
Uniting Communities through Music, Dance, and Tradition
While awareness and education strengthen the mind, culture and festivals bring joy to the heart. Following the success of its awareness drive, DCRUST once again came alive with colour and energy during its annual celebration — Holi Samaran Mahotsav.
This grand festival was not just about colours; it was about celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, and togetherness. The Holi Samaran Mahotsav brought students, teachers, and the local community together to celebrate harmony through music, dance, and unity.
The Essence of Holi Samaran Mahotsav
The festival was aptly named “Samaran Mahotsav” — meaning “a celebration to remember.” It reminded everyone that festivals are not only about fun but also about cultural connection, gratitude, and shared happiness.
Holi, the festival of colours, symbolises the victory of good over evil, love over hatred, and unity over division. DCRUST beautifully embodied this spirit by organising a day filled with joy, performances, laughter, and cultural pride.
Cultural Events and Student Performances
The Mahotsav featured folk dances, classical music, poetry recitations, and drama performances representing the diverse cultural traditions of India. Students from different states showcased their regional art forms — from the energetic bhangra of Punjab to the graceful kathak of North India.
A special performance depicting the legend of Prahlad and Holika reminded everyone of the spiritual meaning behind Holi — the triumph of truth and devotion.
Colourful rangoli designs, traditional decorations, and eco-friendly “gulal” stalls added to the vibrant atmosphere of the campus. The sound of dhol, the rhythm of music, and the laughter of students created an unforgettable experience of unity and celebration.
Bridging Tradition and Modernity
What made the Holi Samaran Mahotsav special was its balance of tradition and modern youth energy. Alongside traditional performances, students organised DJ sessions, modern dance numbers, and cultural fusion acts, proving that Indian youth can celebrate culture while embracing creativity and innovation.
Through this blend, DCRUST highlighted an important message — our traditions evolve, but their essence of unity and joy remains timeless.
Message of Harmony and Brotherhood
Holi at DCRUST was more than just a festival; it was a symbol of harmony and brotherhood. Students from different courses, states, and backgrounds came together as one family. The festival broke social barriers and reminded everyone that diversity is a source of strength.
Teachers and staff also participated wholeheartedly, playing colours with students and sharing sweets, reinforcing the bond between mentors and learners. The event embodied DCRUST’s inclusive ethos — where every culture is respected, and every student feels a sense of belonging.
Environmental Responsibility: An Eco-Friendly Celebration
In keeping with the university’s values, the Holi Samaran Mahotsav was celebrated with an eco-friendly approach. Students used natural colours, avoided water wastage, and promoted the idea of “Green Holi.”
This initiative reflected DCRUST’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection — showing that even while celebrating, we can care for the planet.
Cultural Awareness and National Pride
Cultural celebrations like Holi Samaran Mahotsav strengthen the identity of the youth. They learn to appreciate art, respect traditions, and understand the values that bind the nation together.
DCRUST used the festival as an opportunity to teach students the importance of heritage, inclusivity, and unity in diversity — the true essence of Indian culture.
